Non diagetic sounds of a sweet tune at the start of the film, this is done to make it seem like the film is soft

Other non diagetic sounds like the camra clicks and zooms and the birds are used

There is very little speech is used in the film, the speech used is from the girl saying "hello?" "Is anyone here?"

When the girl wakes up to find she had been cut open, a happy song from a record player starts playing this is used in a dramatic scene because it makes the scene more weird and scary at the same time

Mise en scene

Props used in the film are
The camra, bottle of drugged water, blade and knife

The setting is a typical abandoned cabin House in the woods this setting creates a scary mood however because it is set in the daytime the film had high key lighting this helps the scariness become unexpected

Similarities in short horror films

Similarities      Lights out--Inside--Cam Closer

All three films involved a young white female victim

All three films ended on seeing the killer or demon

All three had very little speech

All three films had the similar structure eg: 1) start off normal (happy)--- 2)victim notices weird things happening --- 3) ends in a jump scare with audience seeing the killer/ demon

Short horror films analysed

Lights out

This short horror film is set in a typical dark setting, where the victim is female and alone. This setting is a typical horror film convention.

Hyperreal sounds are used for footsteps and simple sounds to exaggerate them. This excites the audience and adds suspense to the scene. Non diegetic sounds were used for the jump scares to scare the audience

There was no real speech during the film however key language features like screams and gasps were used to shoe the scared emotion to the victim

The title was introduces at the start in a in a thin uneven font with a glowing white colour on a black background, this title sequence

Inside

This short horror film is set in a typical abandoned setting, where the victim is again female and alone. This setting is a typical horror film convention.

Hyperreal sounds are used for footsteps and creaking sounds of the floor and doors, this again is used to create a scary and odd atmosphere bin the setting which then adds suspense to the scene.in one scene some happy music suddenly started playing,  this made the song scary because it was playing in a scary dramatic scene, this is common to many horror films.

There is very little speech in this short horror film however screams and gasps and crying were features used show the emotion of the victim.

The tile sequence is done at the start and set out in a red colour on a black background to relate to the bloody and gory scene in the film.

In this short horror film it is set out in an apartment and starts off normal with no scary indirect, this is done to make it seem like a soft movie. Also the victim is also a female and alone , again a typical horror film convention

There is no real speech in this film but screams and gasps are included.
